I havev brought a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv7
Intel I7
Ram 8 G
dual hard dr 500G each
Whenever I tried to play a dvd movie the playback in the first 3 minutes is okay, and then it becomes choppy and lagging and eventually it is impossible to watch it at all. Is there anyway I can fix this problem Thank you.
This laptop is less than Ideal; from the date I had purchased it till now I had encounter problems one after another; first it was the blue screen crashes on a regular basis then after the Bios upgrade now I have trouble with the dvd play back.
The video playback is choppied and lagging; I had tried every sugguestion according to their website "solve problem" but still it is not working properly. This supposed to be a Entertainment PC, and I can't even play a lousy dvd let alone anything else. HP used to have good quality computer products but this laptop experience I had endure put a serious doubt in my future purchased of HP product.

Thanks for the information. I know that the graphics driver you are using now creates the same problem with my Blu-ray movies.
The movie would freeze while the audio would keep going and at times the whole thing would crash.
This solved my problem

Also, try using Windows Media Player, if you are not already doing so, but I believe the new driver I gave you is the key.

What is your complete model number and what version of video card do you have ? eg NVIDIA GT 230M.
Problems like this can be solved by installing a new driver version for your video card.
Also, did it update the BIOS automatically ? If the DVD lagging problem started after the BIOS update then try reverting back to your previous BIOS.
When it did the BIOS update there should have been a window that told you what the present one was and what the new version that was going to be installed. eg. F.21 to F.24.

The complete model:HP Pavilion dv7-3098ca Entertainment Notebook PC
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M Driver:8.17.11.9716(20100316) Current Resolution 1600x900 Refresh rate:60
BIOS F.1B
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q720@1.60GHZ
I used to have blue screen crash 3-4 times a day plus system over heat; after I call the tech support, the lady technical walk me through all the hardeare tests; I was taken through the process of updating the BIOS plus the Video driver as well as the Intel driver. Now the crash and overheat is gone but play dvd is out of the question.
I am thankful for your kind assistance.

I am glad that the new driver worked for you.
It took me a long time to trouble shoot and figure out the the NVIDIA driver, version 197.16 was the problem. I also had help from others solving my Blu-ray problems.
This pretty much confirms that there is something wrong with 197.16. The new one I gave you is out of Beta testing and it seems to be fine. There are two more new Beta versions available already, but I will not post them as 257.21 appears to have solved your problem.
