Hi @mshobz89,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is experiencing a display issue that's causing the screen to flicker and show lines or jumping visuals. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue.

Check for External Interference

  • Disconnect Peripherals: Remove any external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.) to ensure they aren’t causing the problem.

Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers

  • Update Drivers:
    • Go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager").
    • Expand the "Display adapters" section.
    • Right-click on your graphics card and select "Update driver."
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
  • Reinstall Drivers:
    • If updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it:
      • In Device Manager, right-click on the graphics card and select "Uninstall device."
      • Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Update Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Adjust Refresh Rate

  • Change Refresh Rate:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
    • Scroll down and click on "Advanced display settings."
    • Under "Refresh rate," try selecting a different option and see if it resolves the issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Reset Laptop:
    • Power off the laptop.
    • Disconnect all external devices and unplug the power cord.
    • Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the laptop.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Update BIOS:
    • Sometimes updating the BIOS can resolve display issues. Check HP’s support site for BIOS updates for your laptop model.
  • Reset BIOS to Default:
    • Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during startup (usually by pressing F2, F10, ESC, or DEL depending on the model).
    • Look for an option to reset to default settings.

Inspect Hardware

  • Check for Loose Connections:
    • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, check the internal connections, particularly the display cable, to ensure it’s securely connected.
  • Check for Physical Damage:
    • Look for any visible signs of hardware damage, especially around the screen and hinges.

Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot into Safe Mode:
    • Restart your laptop and press F8 or Shift + F8 during startup (timing can be tricky).
    • Select "Safe Mode" from the boot options.
    • See if the issue persists in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t, the problem might be related to a software or driver conflict.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
