HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0003nc
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

after installing the recent BIOS update via Windows Update, white edges appear around the screen of my Envy x360:

They are visible even in BIOS diagnostics:

The white edges are visible for an hour after turning on the computer or waking it up from sleep. If I continue to use the computer, they fade and gradually disappear.

I tried to rollback the BIOS update, both by pressing Rollback in BIOS diagnostics and by downloading the previous version from your website. Unfortunately, I get this error (I have the signature file 0876E.sig in the same directory with the 0876E.bin file):

I also tried hard reset (pressing the Power button for 15 seconds with the adapter unplugged), but it did not help.

The computer is not damaged in any way; I only use it at home. I have the warranty, but I need the computer now to do my daily job. Please advise how to fix it. Thank you

Guys, HP has released a new BIOS version (F.23) via optional driver updates in Windows Update. This issue is gone for me after installing the update. Steps to install:

1) Open Settings (Windows + I), then Windows Update, then Advanced options, then Optional updates.

2) Look for HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.23.0.0 and install it. You will have to reboot the laptop.

3) Turn off the computer and let it cool down for several hours. After this, the issue was gone for me. I guess that the root cause was overheating of the display/videocard during the sleep mode.

Even tho I think this is not a driver related problem, i decided to give it a shot without success...

Also trying to roll back the bios to the F21 doesnt work...

I ran out of ideas... but please if someone comes with the idea of "sending the computer to HP" or vague solutions....  he/she can already go to hell, my computer is out of warranty and im not willing to pay for a mess that HP decided to release via windows update

cheers

Hi @Peter399,

I see that you're experiencing a display issue after BIOS update,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details.

  • Have you tried connecting an external monitor to test the display?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix.

Let's perform a hard reset:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
  • Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
  • Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
  • If the issue persists, let's perform bios recovery and check
  • Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.
  • Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.
  • The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery.

HP BIOS Update recovery in progress

  • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps but press the Windows key and the V key. If the screen still does not display, your computer might not support the feature or there is a hard drive issue. Continue to the next step to install a BIOS recovery file from the HP website.
  • If the Power light turns off, the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the button for only 2 to 3 seconds.
  • If a BIOS recovery message repeatedly displays, continue to the next step to install an updated BIOS version.
  • If a message that the computer improperly shut down or a boot problem is detected displays, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error.
  • If Windows starts, update to the latest BIOS version. Go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Are you serious dude? You have to be kidding us...... What kind of answer is that?

We already said is not possible to go back to the previous BIOS. The commands you mention don't work at all  Probably the culprit is not even the BIOS.

The only thing that we know is that everybody is facing the same problem starting on February 7th after the Windows Update process, we THINK that probably that's the problem but you guys are the specialists and can recreate the problem in your labs.

Its "incredible" and quite frustrating reading this kind of answers coming from you.

Hi HP support team, is there already a solution to this? Same happened to me after installing latest updates. Also an Envy x360 with touchscreen. Let me know and thanks in advance!

Honestly, HP does not have a clue about how to solve the dumbness they just created.

Good thing maybe is new posts are coming with the same issue.

I'm suffering from exactly the same issue, also after the recent update to BIOS version F22. I'm also not able to rollback to an earlier issue. The white / faded edges do not appear always, sometimes I can use the laptop for a decent amount of time before the issue appears. However even if it's only intermittent it's not acceptable. I did not update the bios by choice, it was forced via Windows Update. Before this update my laptop was working fine so if it was up to me, I probably would not have updated anyway.

What is being done to resolve this issue? Is there a new BIOS version in development?

The same issue. Has someone resolved it yet?
