Hi @TJ5211,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Here’s a troubleshooting guide to recover the missing pointer on your HP ENVY x2 - 13-j002dx running Windows 10:
1. Check for Pointer Visibility (Touch & Visual)
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then press Esc to see if the pointer reappears.
- Use your finger (touchscreen) to interact with the screen and open Settings > Devices > Mouse & touchpad to verify that the pointer speed and other settings are correct.
2. Touchpad Toggle (Touch & Visual)
- Press Fn + F12 (or the function key with the touchpad icon) to make sure the touchpad isn’t disabled.
- If you have an external mouse, plug it in to see if the pointer appears with an external device. Feel for a click response when you try to use the touchpad, which could indicate a hardware issue.
3. Mouse Settings Reset (Visual)
- Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options.
- Ensure the "Hide pointer while typing" option is unchecked. This setting could make your pointer disappear at times.
- Press Windows + P and toggle through the display modes to ensure the pointer isn’t on an extended display you can't see.
4. Device Manager Check (Visual & Feedback)
- Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager) and expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on the touchpad and Update driver or Roll back driver if an update caused the issue.
- Uninstall the device, then restart your laptop to let Windows automatically reinstall the drivers.
5. Enable Mouse Keys (Auditory & Visual)
- Press Left Alt + Left Shift + Num Lock to enable Mouse Keys (you’ll hear a beep sound).
- Use number pad keys (2, 4, 6, 😎 to move the pointer and see if it’s visible. If so, this confirms an issue with the touchpad or mouse driver settings.
If these steps don’t restore the pointer, it might be a deeper hardware issue with the touchpad.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
