ProBook 4510s
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My ProBook 4510s suddenly stop showing/connecting with wifi. It shows the broken icon of LAN (with red cross) instead of wifi icon.

The wifi button (slider on the bottom right with orange/blue light) is ON (so wifi should be enabled, but it is not)

There is no "Wireless Connection" available in Networks and Connections control panel.

Kindly help.

Thanks.

Hi:

It is possible the wifi card had died on you and needs to be replaced.

See if installing the HP wireless assistant software and restarting the PC allows you to activate the wifi card by turning it on using the software.

This package contains the HP Wireless Assistant for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The HP Wireless Assistant is a user application that shows the status of individual wireless devices (such as Bluetooth, WLAN, or WWAN devices) and that provides the ability to control the radios for these wireless devices.

Thanks for the reply and package but it didn't solve the problem. still the same condition.

If wifi is dead, can you please help me to confirm it how I can make sure of it?

In BIOS system information, it says "No Device Present" for WWAN FCC ID and WLAN FCC ID.

Kindly help.

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

The fact that the BIOS isn't picking up the wifi adapter means it is dead, or the slot on the motherboard that powers the wifi card is dead.

In my understanding, Bluetooth and wireless devices work under the same slot if I'm not wrong? My Bluetooth is working fine but not wifi. So, still, the option of "dead wifi" remains?

Suppose it is dead, what you suggest to me, to replace it or I have to buy a new machine? 😞

Thanks for your support and answers! Appreciated.

Hi:

On your model, the bluetooth is a separate module (see chapter 3 of the service manual (page 38).

See chapter 3 of the service manual for the supported wifi cards with their HP part numbers.

You must get one of the cards listed in the service manual, and it must have the HP part number on it or it will not work.

You can probably find one of the cards listed in the manual in used but tested and working condition very cheaply on eBay.

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

If you like your notebook, you may want to invest $10 bucks into getting a replacement wifi card, and if that doesn't work, then you can buy a new PC.
