first off im not real saavy with computers... obviously right.  i recently bought a dual band router.  its a netgear nighthawk ac 1750. i have it hooked up, but my computer doesn't recognize the 5 ghz band or its just not on the list of available networks.  when i go to the device manager under network adapters, it lists i have a qualcomm atheros ar9485 802.11 b/g/n wifi adapter. when i get into the settings of that i try and do an update and it comes back and says i have the latest update.  dont have alot of money to buy a newly updated computer that would probably and certainly work well with the new dual band router. just wondering if there is any other options besides buying another computer?  please help as i really don't know a heck of a lot about computers, however i am trying to learn.

Hi,

Manual: Page 48
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03763129

Specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-2000-Notebook-PC-series/5375422/model/6617197/document/c04008...

There is no dual band wireless card listed compatible for your model series.

Your model has BIOS white list, so you cannot definitely go for any other cards than what is listed (exact HP spare part number). Also there is only single antenna built in your notebook.

What you can do is buy this:
https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-N900-Wi-Fi-Adapter-WNDA4100/dp/B006V72AE0

thank you kindly. this will tie me over until i save enough money for an updated new computer. you are awesome.  one more thing i wanted to ask you. on that amazon link, it gives three choices. 1) is the n900   2) is the ac1200  and  3) is the ac1200 beamforming +. which one would you choose with my router.

Definitely third one, but it needs you to shell out few bucks. Anything will do for me.
