At HPE, we have a hybrid workplace.  I have to take my laptop to the office at times during the week.  When I come back to my home office, I have to re-pair my new keyboard so it can connect.  This is the same after a reboot.  It is annoying because I can't use my keyboard until this re-pairing is done.  I did not have this issue with my old hp keyboard.

Hi @lkravitz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your new HP keyboard might be having trouble maintaining a stable Bluetooth connection. Here are some steps you can try to improve the situation.

Update Drivers and Firmware: Ensure that your keyboard's firmware and your laptop's Bluetooth drivers are up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can cause connection problems.

Check Battery: If your keyboard uses batteries, make sure they are fully charged or replace them with new ones. Low battery levels can affect connectivity.

Bluetooth Settings:

  • On your laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  • Find your keyboard in the list of paired devices, click on it, and select Remove device.
  • Re-pair the keyboard by selecting Add Bluetooth or other device and following the pairing instructions.

Reconnect Automatically:

  • After removing and re-pairing the keyboard, it should connect automatically when powered on and in range. If it doesn’t, check the Bluetooth settings to ensure it is set to automatically connect to known devices.

Power Management Settings:

  • Go to Device Manager > Bluetooth > your Bluetooth adapter properties.
  • In the Power Management tab, uncheck the option Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. This can help prevent the Bluetooth adapter from being disabled during sleep or restart.

Keyboard Settings:

  • Some keyboards have settings or drivers that allow for automatic reconnection. Check if your keyboard’s manufacturer provides a utility or software for managing these settings.

Reboot and Test:

  • After making changes, reboot your laptop and test the keyboard to see if the issue persists.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, there might be a specific compatibility issue with your new keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi -Thanks for your advice.

My HP 970/975 keyboard is rechargeable and is at 100% - this was the first thing I checked.  I checked drivers and the software says that the best drivers are already installed.  I have a Bluetooth mouse and Bluetooth headset that reconnect automatically without needed to forget/pair -- this is how I would like the keyboard to work.  Currently, whenever I take my HP Z-book Firefly laptop to work then bring it back home, to get the keyboard to work, I have to forget it & pair again.

I don't know how to find if there are specific settings for the keyboard.  I could not see anything in the Bluetooth properties for this keyboard.
