I gotta laptop thats model 2000-2d79NR and this chunk of plastic is slower than my grandma running a marathon. I just reset it because I forgot the passcode and it's before the update that makes you have the ability to delete Microsoft Edge and i'd like to scroll to the top of my Google Document before World War 3 starts.

Hi @ulonzui,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Improving the performance of your laptop, especially an older model like the HP 2000-2d79NR, involves several steps. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help speed up your laptop and optimize its performance:

1. Update Your System

Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates to ensure your system has the latest patches and improvements.

Driver Updates:

  • Update drivers, particularly for graphics, network, and chipset. Visit the HP website or use Device Manager to find and install the latest drivers.

2. Optimize Startup Programs

  1. Manage Startup Apps:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary startup programs that slow down boot time.

3. Clean Up Your Disk

Disk Cleanup:

  • Type Disk Cleanup in the search bar and run the tool.
  • Select the drive you want to clean and choose the files to delete (temporary files, system cache, etc.).

Remove Unnecessary Files:

  • Delete old files, uninstall unused applications, and clear your browser cache.

4. Check for Malware

  1. Run a Full System Scan:
    • Use Windows Defender or a reputable third-party antivirus program to scan your system for malware or viruses.

5. Upgrade Hardware

Add More RAM:

  • Check if you can upgrade the RAM. Adding more RAM can significantly improve performance, especially if you’re running multiple applications.

Upgrade to an SSD:

  • If your laptop has a traditional hard drive, consider upgrading to a Solid State Drive (SSD). SSDs offer faster read/write speeds and can greatly improve overall system performance.

6. Optimize System Settings

Adjust Performance Settings:

  • Right-click on This PC > Properties > Advanced system settings.
  • Under the Performance section, click Settings and choose Adjust for best performance.

Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
  • Choose High performance to maximize performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
