Paul,

 

I had tried to disable the Atheros a few messages ago and it also gave a blue screen.

 

You suggestion of Windows safe mode was genius. It allowed me to Uninstall the Atheros and when it booted up again it had installed the new exteral bluetooth, using the drivers that I tried to install yesterday, which did get installed on the disk. The new external bluetooth now works perfectly, thanks.

 

The same mode boot also restored access to my Outlook 2010 email software, which I had lost yesterday, despite several boots, so you get credit for fixing my Outlook also.

 

You help and extended hours of support are greatly appreciated.
