Background: HP Pavillon dv4 upgraded from Vista to Windows 10. Keyboard does not function well so another keyboard USB connected (2nd keyboard does not have an FN key). Don't like touchpad so mouse USB connected. Wifi configured. The current configuration has been working fine since the free Windows 10 upgrade and Creator update.
FYI: Discovered that this model does not seem to have a wifi button after examining the online HP Notebook guide.
When problem started: Found an old Gateway monitor which was attached to the laptop. Rebooted. Logged in, Gateway worked fine. HP monitor closed since not much desktop space.
HP wifi light on.
Noticed the network WIFI was turned off. Reset the network connection but could not turned on the Wifi.
Clicked the troubleshooting link ... reported result: Wifi button turned off (could not find it).
After mulling over what changed, decided to remove the Gateway monitor. The wifi turned on and I could connect.
Question: How to connect monitor and keep wifi active?
Thanks in advance!

After reading your story I think your setup: close the lid to make the wifi card go to sleep. Please try this way
(a) Open Device Manager,
(b) Go to Network adapters,
(c) Expand it then right click Wireless adapter,
(d) Select Properties,
(e) Go to Power Management tab,
(f) Untick Allow ....
(g) Click OK/Apply
Regards.

Thanks for the quick response.
Are you saying that when the notebook lid is closed, the wifi card goes to sleep? Could be. Day before I had a Dell monitor attached and with the notebook lid opened to keep the notebook from sleeping ... had no problem with WIFI then. I just attached the Gateway to the notebook with the lid open. Wifi still working. Thanks for the tip.
To close the notebook lid so it is not in the way of the Gateway (again lack of desktop space) and keep wifi functioning, I followed the steps provided.
(a) Open Device Manager, (b) Network adapters, (c) Expanded Network adapters. These are the listed network adapters: Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, WAN Miniport (IKEv2), WAN Miniport(IP), WAN Miniport(IPv6), WAN Minimport(L2TP), WAN Miniport (Network Monitor), WAN Miniport (PPPOE), WAN Miniport(PPTP), WAN Miniport (SSTP). Assume the Broadcom 802.11g is the wireless adapter?(d) Selected Properties, only tabs are: General, Advanced,Driver, Details, Events, Resources. There is No Power Management tab. (Advanced tab properties: Fragmentation Threshold, IBSS 54g(tm) Mode, IBSS 54g(tm) Protection Mode, Locally Administered MAC accress, No Description, Priority & VLAN, Rate, RTS Threshold, Wake-up Mode.)
Any workaround so I could (g) Untick Allow ...?
Thanks again. At least the attached monitor and wifi works as long as notebook lid is open.
