Just got a new HP ENVY x360 15.6" Intel Evo Platform 2-in-1 Touchscreen Laptop - 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1355U - 1080p - Windows 11, Model 15-ew1073cl.

This laptop randomly loses Wi-Fi functionality. I run UEFI diagnostics, and get “wireless module not installed”. I normally would interpret this as a hardware failure.

However, hard reset (20+ seconds press on Power) brings it back, albeit then the start screen says “CMOS checksum is invalid”.

India-based support has proven to be unable to help.

Anyone with the same experience? If so, is this fixable or do I need to take it back to the store (Costco) and not bother with HP X360 in the future?

Hi:

I recommend that you return the notebook if the suggestions I offer below don't help any, because you shouldn't be getting a CMOS checksum is invalid message.

That means the notebook is not keeping the BIOS settings and system clock settings.

Maybe something is wrong with the battery because nowadays notebooks with Internal batteries do not have a separate CMOS/RTC battery that used to maintain those settings in older notebooks with removable external batteries.

Check the time and date to make sure it is correct.

Make sure the battery is fully charged.

Run the battery test to make sure it is properly calibrated.

Update the Mediatek Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers to the latest versions HP currently has.

I don't even see drivers for that model Wi-Fi adapter listed on your notebook's support page.

These are from July, 2023.
