HP Touchsmart 17 (E9G82UA#ABA)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to know whether the hardware and latest updated driver supports Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1 (Bluetooth 4.1 was official approx. the same time this machine was purchased)

It seems that HP bluetooth driver descriptions do not display this information (versions of bluettoh supported, and bluettoh profiles might also be nice).

A follow up on this topic.

According to this description and analysis of the Bluetooth 4.1 specification, apparently hardware that is 4.0 compliant can be patched to upgrade to 4.1.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/bluetooth-4-1-what-is-it-and-why-should-you-care

If this is really possible,

It would be very nice if this is not particularly difficult to do (I suspect that a patch might apply to a multitude of drivers with minimal or no modification) that if HP enabled an upgrade patch for all HP devices, it would be an enormous public relations boon involving relatively little cost.

To get the ball rolling,

- Is there somewhere a feature request can be submitted?

- Is driver source code publicly available?

Thx again.

Hi:

You may want to address your question to the HP executive team at the link below.

HP maintains no official presence on this forum, and I don't work for or represent HP.

Thx again., Done.

I would encourage anyone else who thinks that upgrading HP Bluetooth products from 4.0 to 4.1 with a software patch should be considered to also submit a message at the above link, and reference this Forum thread.

The trustedreviews.com link in my original post describes the new features in 4.1, which include

- Improved power saving

- Ability for the BT device to function both as a Host and a Guest simulaneously. This is especially critical for supporting a mesh network of IoT.

- Simple support for 4.1 compliant devices.

- Improved throughput.

Hopefully you will get some feedback from HP in the near future.
