Hello,
I have a rather elderly HP Pavilion g6-2249wm Notebook PC. It is definitely outfitted with Bluetooth, I've been using it for years. Yet, all of a sudden, the Bluetooth on/off switch in the Notifications screen has disappeared. I can no longer use Bluetooth. I ran a Virtual Assistant troubleshooter on this site, and it told me to open Device Manager and look for the Bluetooth entry; there was none. It said that if there was none, my computer did not have Bluetooth. My computer definitely has Bluetooth. What's my next step? Hard reboot?

So if it is too old, what is it you are having me do? That Driver Easy program did nothing but point out some outdated drivers (none of which were relevant to my situation). That last link, to an HP FTP server, did nothing. (Why would an HP FTP server have a solution, if they no longer support that hardware?)
Never mind, I ordered a dongle. Thanks anyway..

Yes it has. Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07042639
It has Atheros AR9565 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 combination adapter part # 690019-001. Probably it is too old that why. Please download and install
https://www.driversdownloader.com/download/hp/sp56573.exe.html
Regards.

OK, I downloaded and installed that. No change. Bluetooth still does not show up in Device Manager.
I beg your pardon, please ignore that. I was in the process of installing that when I had a death in the family and had to abandon everything. I have just downloaded and installed that again, but I do not know what it is. It says it is sp56573.exe Driver File for HP, but apparently, it is just a driver issue detection tool. When I execute it, it tells me I need to update 13 outdated drivers, but it doesn't actually update them unless I pay for the pro version. I do not wish to pay for the pro version. Is that what you intended to steer me to? Where do I go from here?

As mentioned above, it is too old, no longer supported from HP. Now please try
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71815.exe
Hope this helps
Regards.

That ONE is too old too (at least older than 5 years). HP should remove it because it uses http should be https now.
I did the same for my old Dell E6400. My Dell has different port for wireless adapter which does not use M.2 format. I bought the following one to get 5GHz connection.
