Elitebook 8470p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This PC with Windows 10 was advertised as having Bluetooth - Elitebook 8470p serial number [edit], but I don't think so and I can't get it to work. So

1. will Bluetooth ever work with this module in the machine? ...the module is Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) shown under Device Manager, but has the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. The drivers listed under the device are bthenum.sys and rfcomm.sys.

2. If 'no' can I change the WiFi card - now Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 to 6235?

Under Settings there is a Bluetooth and Other Devices, but no Bluetooth icon. The Troubleshooter returns "Device does not have Bluetooth. Bluetooth is not available on this device. Please try using an external adapter to add Bluetooth capability to this computer."

Many thanks if you can advice please.

Hi:

See if this works...

Make a bootable Ubuntu installer, from the link below.

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Boot from the installer and select the 'Try Ubuntu without installing' option.

See if you can turn on the bluetooth radio in Ubuntu.

If you can, turn it on, then exit out of Ubuntu and see if the BT works in W10 afterward.

If not...according to the service manual the Intel 6230 wifi card is not supported.

But looking at the BIOS release notes, under F.45, it indicates that Provides support for additional WLAN cards.

Unfortunately, it doesn't list which ones were now supported by the BIOS update.

If you want to experiment (with BIOS F.45 or newer installed), I think you should go right to the Intel 7260 AC wifi card.

Somewhere in this forum, I recall that recently I had this discussion with another forum member who successfully installed the Intel 7260 on the 8470W mobile workstation which shares the same manual.

It's cheap enough to experiment with, IMHO.

Here is the description and the part number.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0      HP Part #710661-001

The card is readily available on Amazon or eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Thanks Paul, but probably to complicated for me. I need to find out if Bluetooth will work with the hardware modules I have...if not what do I need to change.

You're very welcome.

I have already suggested what hardware you need to change, and what part to get.

I just can't 100% guarantee it will work.

There are no supported dual band bluetooth wireless cards for your model.

Thanks again Paul...ok got it. I'll try these cards ..one step/card at the time...thanks again.

OK so I have this if it helps:

BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard 68ICF Ver. F.50, 06/08/2014

SMBIOS Version 2.7

Embedded Controller Version 66.55

BIOS Mode Legacy

The Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 does not fit in the single split connector, so will try the

6235...but any advice appreciated..
