Hi:
It would be something you would have to experiment with.
The service manual states you can install 1 x 8 GB and leave the second slot empty.

Crucial states you can install 2 x 4 GB for a total of 8 GB.

Personally, I've never heard of an instance where if you can install 8 GB of memory in one slot, that you couldn't install 8 GB of memory in the second slot as well, but I am not a hardware engineer.
If your notebook is one of those with the e2-9000e processors, I don't believe those can go beyond 8 GB of memory.
