Can I replace the wireless network adapter Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 installed with a newer model?

If so, what brand and model would work?

Spectrum max download speed is 600mbs.  On recent speedtest.net this dinoasur is only reaching around 170mbs.  I have asked this to Claude AI and it said, it should be able to be easily replace and listed several models. But I do not know if all would be compatible due to the old 2015 model and BIOS.

Please let me know what you can suggest.

Thank you.

Please provide the product number of your notebook.

You can find your PC's product number by clicking on the search icon on your Windows taskbar.

Type: System Information

The System information app should show up.

Run the app and the product number of your PC will be found on the System SKU line about 1/4 of the way down on the report.

I believe that the Intel 3160 card your notebook comes with is of the M.2 form factor, but I want to check the parts list to make sure.

If it is, you should be able to upgrade to this Wi-Fi 6 card:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 802.11ax 2 × 2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 5.0     HP part # L35282-005

You're very welcome.

The service manual indicates that the Intel 3160 Wi-Fi card your notebook comes with is of the M.2 form factor.

HP ENVY NotebookIntel Models 17-n100 17-n1993D camera Models 17-r100 17-r199 (worldwide)3D camera Mo...

I googled the part number and it shows the card is M.2, because the Wi-Fi card removal and replacement procedure in the service manual has an illustration of the older PCIe Half Mini Card form factor.

So, the Intel AX200 should work.

Be very careful when removing and reattaching the thin and delicate antenna wires.

This video for your notebook shows how to remove and replace the M.2 Wi-Fi card that has two antenna wires:

Thank you again Paul,

Just ordered an Intel AX200 on Amazon.

My friend can put it in for me.

Hope it improves the download speed!!  It should based on what I have read.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Please post back and let us know how your notebook's Wi-Fi card upgrade project went.
