Hi.

Been having some problems with my laptop booting up which gave me multiple issues to chase with no resolution. Than I read somewhere that removing my wifi card might fix the laptop and it booted up without any problems.

I'm thinking that if this fixed the issue that I would want to upgrade my card to one that has dual band capability.

Laptop has dual antenna.

Module is a ralink RT3290.

Not sure if I can upgrade or if this laptop will reject a different card to one that is in the maintenance and service guide.

Thanks

Your machine was built around 2913/2014 therefore thc chance to upgrade wifi card is very slim to none, You can use USB options

    https://www.pcgamer.com/au/best-usb-wi-fi-adapter/

Few weeks ago, for testing, I bought the following wifi card for my 11 years old machine

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/60514-7265.NGWWB.W

Unfortunately my machine uses different format, not M.2, physically won't fit therefore I went to the shop and swap to the following one (I did not have to pay more, they are same price):

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking/Adapters/67965-USB-AC53-NANO

And it works perfectly, get same result (download speed) with the 1G wired on same machine.

Regards.

Hi, @Vztrt

You notebook does not have a BIOS whitelist, but before I give you a recommended dual band AC wifi card to replace the Ralink card with, please let me know what model processor your notebook has.  The full model name and number of the processor.

I cannot find any specs on your notebook.

@Banhien

Thanks for the advice and a lead on the dongle.

Hey @Paul_Tikkanen

Model number I provided is correct. So strange you cannot find it.

According to the HP product assistant it has a product ID of F4A56PA#ABG. Not sure if that helps.

Processor is an Intel i7-4500U.

Thanks

Hi:

I knew what the model number was that you posted.

When you do a search for it, you get no info on what processor it has, and that makes a difference on those older models as to what model wifi adapter you can upgrade to.

Since your notebook has an Intel 4th gen core processor and chipset, you can upgrade to this dual band AC card with bluetooth.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can find the card on eBay or maybe Amazon.

Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Before installing the card, go to the Windows control panel>programs>uninstall a program.

Let the list populate.  If there is any Ralink bluetooth software listed there, uninstall it.

Then go to the device manager, and uninstall both the Ralink bluetooth adapter and Ralink wifi adapter.  Also check the Uninstall driver box.

Shut down the PC and install the Intel card.

W10 should automatically install the drivers, but they will be old.

You can get the latest wifi and bluetooth drivers from Intel and the link below.
