Hi @Sinbar83,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there could be a few potential reasons for your HP laptop only functioning properly when connected to a personal hotspot but not your home WiFi. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.
Check Network Settings:
- Forget and Reconnect to WiFi: Go to your laptop's network settings, forget your home WiFi network, and then reconnect to it by entering the password again. This can clear any connection issues.
- Check for Network Conflicts: Ensure that your laptop’s network settings don’t have any conflicting settings, such as a static IP address or DNS issues.
Network Driver Update:
- Update Network Drivers: Go to "Device Manager" on your laptop, find the "Network adapters" section, and right-click on your WiFi adapter to update its drivers. An outdated or corrupt driver may be causing connection problems.
Check Router Settings:
- Restart Your Router: Power cycle your router by turning it off for 30 seconds, then turning it back on.
- Check Band Settings (2.4GHz vs 5GHz): Ensure your laptop is connected to the correct frequency. Some laptops may have trouble connecting to 5GHz networks, so try switching to 2.4GHz if available.
Firewall or Security Software:
- Disable Security Software Temporarily: If you have any antivirus or firewall software running, try disabling them temporarily to see if they are blocking the connection.
Check for Network Conflicts:
- Ensure no other device on your network is using the same IP address as your laptop. If the router's DHCP lease is causing conflicts, restarting the router or renewing the laptop’s IP address may help.
Proxy or VPN Settings:
- If you’re using a proxy or VPN for the hotspot connection, your laptop may be misconfigured to use the hotspot's settings exclusively. Disable any VPN or proxy temporarily and try connecting.
Check WiFi Profile Settings:
- Sometimes Windows may prioritize different network profiles. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and make sure your home WiFi is set as the default network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
