HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1011nv

Whenever I restart my laptop and try to connect to any wifi network I get the message "Unable to connect to network". The only thing that seems to fix this is if I connect to my phone's hotspot first and then try to connect to wifi again. Then it works with no issue.

I have tried the network troubleshooter, doing a network reset and manually updating the driver but nothing worked. I've also done a component test which didn't find any problems.

Hi @Katttttt,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi on your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop after a restart can be frustrating, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue. Starting with the mobile hotspot is a common workaround, but ideally, you'd want your Wi-Fi to work without this step. Here's a step-by-step guide to **bleep**:

Restart Your Router:

  • Sometimes the issue might be with your router. Try restarting it by unplugging the power for 10-15 seconds and then plugging it back in.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Before trying anything else, restart your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop. This simple step can sometimes resolve temporary network issues.

Check Wi-Fi Settings:

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is turned on. You can usually do this by pressing the Wi-Fi button on your keyboard or using the function key (usually labeled with a Wi-Fi symbol).

Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • Go to your Wi-Fi settings and forget the problematic network. Then, search for available networks and reconnect to your home Wi-Fi network.

Update Wi-Fi Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted Wi-Fi drivers can cause connectivity problems. Update your Wi-Fi drivers to the latest version from the HP website or through Windows Update.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, Windows updates can include fixes for Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Ensure your system is up to date by checking for and installing any pending updates.

Reset Network Settings:

  • If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your network settings. To do this:
    • Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Status."
    • Scroll down and click on "Network reset."
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your network settings. Note that this will remove all saved Wi-Fi networks, so you'll need to re-enter passwords.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure there are no physical obstructions or other electronic devices that might be causing interference with your Wi-Fi signal.

Temporary Workaround:

  • If connecting to a mobile hotspot first consistently resolves the issue, you can create a script or shortcut to automate this process after every restart. While not a permanent solution, it can be a practical workaround.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
