I have jad thid problem on and off for the past several months. My HP chromebook OS laptop will turn off the wifi (the white outline symbol of the wifi shows up) indicating that there's no wifi network as if I'm standing in the middle of nowhere. I try to turn it on but it turns itself back off. And my Wifi works perfectly fine with all my other devices. This issue goes on and off sometimes nothing will happen and other times my wifi will just turn off on its own and disconnect me.

Hi @Ashley254,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Chromebook is intermittently disconnecting from Wi-Fi and refusing to reconnect, even though your network works fine on other devices. Sorry to hear about the issue. Let's try to get this resolved with a few targeted steps.

1. Forget and Reconnect to the Network

  • Go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi.
  • Click on your current network and select Forget.
  • Wait a few seconds, then reconnect by selecting the network and entering your password.

2. Disable Bluetooth

Bluetooth can interfere with Wi-Fi on some Chromebooks:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  • Toggle Bluetooth off and see if the Wi-Fi becomes stable

3. Enable Auto-Connect

  • Tap the time in the bottom-right corner > Settings.
  • Go to Network > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap your network and make sure “Automatically connect to this network” is enabled

4. Update Chrome OS

  • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart your Chromebook.

5. Use the Connectivity Diagnostics Tool

  • Open the Chrome browser and type: chrome://network
  • Use the Connectivity Diagnostics tool to identify issues.

6. Try a Hard Reset

  • Press and hold the Refresh key (circular arrow) and tap the Power button.

Keep holding Refresh until the Chromebook restarts

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
