HP Notebook - 15-bw069na running Windows 11.
I recently upgraded my internet speed to 1000Mbps and as my WIFI speed is always less than 50Mbps I decided to connect using ethernet as my router is now accessible so I can use an ethernet connection to my laptop.
On running speed tests my internet speed via ethernet is never above 200Mbps whereas using the same cable and port on my router my desktop speeds are sometimes in excess of 950Mbps.
Is this a limitation of my laptop even though it says I have a 1000Mbps ethernet card similar to what I have in my desktop?

@Rocketron28, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check Ethernet Adapter Settings:
Open Device Manager (search in the Start menu).
Expand Network Adapters, right-click on your Ethernet adapter, and select Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab, look for settings like Speed & Duplex and ensure it’s set to Auto Negotiation.
If it's already on auto, try setting it manually to 1000 Mbps Full Duplex and see if that improves speeds.
Update Drivers and Network Firmware:
Go to Device Manager → Network Adapters → Right-click on your Ethernet adapter → Select Update Driver.
Alternatively, visit the HP support website and download the latest Ethernet drivers for your laptop model.
Also, make sure your router firmware is up to date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause performance issues.
Disable Power Saving Mode:
Go to Device Manager → Network Adapters → Right-click on your Ethernet adapter → Select Properties.
In the Power Management tab, uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power.
Additionally, make sure your power plan in Windows is set to High Performance (Control Panel → Power Options).
Check for CPU or Software Bottlenecks:
Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) can help you see if CPU or disk usage is spiking during the speed test.
If your CPU is overloaded during the test, it might be limiting your internet speed. Try closing any unnecessary applications and see if the speed improves.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
