Microsoft Windows 11

Hi

I am trying to update my HP Elitebook 840 G6 from Wifi 5 to Wifi 6 (E) or Wifi 7.

I currently have :

  • Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11ac 2 × 2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 5 (vPro)
  • Part Number: L28418-002 HP SPS-WLAN AC+BT5 INT 9560NGW M2 2230 vPRO

I tried recently

  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 802.11ax 2 × 2 + Bluetooth 5 (vPro)
  • Part Number L35284-005 (the L35284-002 is listed in the Service manual, not the 005 : I don't know if it matters a lot)

I does not work : I have a bunch of error in Windows (Code 10 or 43) : the OS cannot start the card while it's seen in the Device Manager with the correct name. I tried the stock MS driver, the 21.60 and 21.160 from Intel but still the same result.

I am dual booting with Fedora but it does not see the card either.

It looks like there is a hardware incompatibility, or the card is faulty.

I then reinstalled the 9560 card and it work again.

So my question :
1/ I just plug the new card and restarted : is there anything to do for example in Bios or elsewhere for the card to be recognized ?

2/ my current card being vPro, I searched a vPro Wifi 6 card (not easy !) : but is vPro mandatory ?

I mean the motherboard is vPro and need a vPro to deliver these specifics features, but as non vPro are listed on the service manual I guess I should be able to install it and it should work while simply not allowing vPro features to work, which is really not a problem to me unless I am wrong

3/ I saw in this thread from Joniels (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Change-to-Wi-Fi-7-card-in-HP-EliteBoo...) where he has succesfully installed a B200 (Wifi 7) card in his 830 G7 while not listed on Service manual (who only list AX201 vPro and non vPro card) : does it mean I could also try it on mine ?
BTW : the link provided by Jolinels does not work anymore and I am unable to find any details and specs on the card he used.

Thanks for your help

Hi:

You don't need a vPro Wi-Fi card if you are using the notebook for home use and are not connected to a corporate network where Intel vPro technology may be a business requirement.

What Is the Intel vPro® Platform?

If you want to try out non vPro Wi-Fi cards, I recommend any of these three:

Intel BE200 M.2 2230 Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.4 non-vPro WW WLAN module   HP part # / SPS # N39883-005

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS # M27269-005

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS # L35282-005

After installing the card, it should work automatically if the drivers are installed.

W11 should automatically install the drivers for the AX200.

If it doesn't work, then the BIOS doesn't like it for some reason.

Just to let you know that :
- Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 802.11ax 2 × 2 + Bluetooth 5 (non-vPro) L35282-002 works fine, plug and play with latest Intel drivers (Wifi 23.120.0.3 and BT 23.120.0.4)

- Intel Wi-FI 7 Bluetooth 5.4 Intel BE200 WiFi Card BE200NGW 2.4/5/ 6 GHz 5.8 Gbps from amazon also works. https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0CLV9C8TZ
