Chrome OS

I've read similar posts that have a problem with the frequent disconnects with laptops that have installed the Real Tek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe wireless network adapter, but not in a Chromebook. I am having trouble with frequent disconnects from the network.

I have 14a-na0012tg that I bought "renewed" from a reseller. I like the machine very well except for this issue.

I found the maintenance and service guide here:

On page 7 it shows 2 options for a wireless card:
Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11b/g/n/a/ac (2 × 2) MU-MIMO supported and Bluetooth® 5.0
Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 802.11ax (2 × 2) and Bluetooth 5

I tried to replace the card with the listed Intel, but the laptop would not power up.

In HP parts, it says to purchase this item, but is that just the same Real Tek card that I have now?
L44796-005
WLAN RT 11AC 2X2 +BT5 M.2 2230

Any advice would be so very welcomed!

By the way, I tried to add my Chromebook as a product to my profile, but the product number and serial number are unrecognized.

Thanks!

Hi:

An Intel AX201 won't work unless the notebook came with one.

That is because it is a CNVIo card that works with select Intel processors and chipsets.

What Are the Intel® Integrated Connectivity (CNVi) and Companion...

You can try the AX200, but I can't guarantee that one will work but at least is a 'normal' Wi-Fi card that does not use the processor in order for the Wi-Fi to work like the AX201 or AX211, so it is your best option to try.

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part number L35282-005.

Looks like Amazon has an Intel non-vPro card with that SPS number:

Thanks so much. I will give the non-vPro card you suggested and report back.

I'm disappointed to report that the card you suggested doesn't seem to work in this Chromebook. The machine powers up and works fine except that it can't connect to the Internet. I can see "add connection" but it doesn't detect any networks.

If you have any further suggestions that might be worthwhile to try within settings or resetting, I'm all ears.

Thanks so much. I'm very appreciative for the assistance.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know what other things you can try to get the Intel AX200 to work.

I did a search and was looking to see if there were any hints out there on the internet regarding getting the AX200 to work in a Chromebook and came up empty.

Normally when you have an issue like that, certain contact pins on the Wi-Fi card have to be masked with tape, but I saw no such procedures.  The Wi-Fi is automatically turned off instead of on and there are pins that control some of those functions.  I have no idea which ones do that on that model Wi-Fi card.

Well, rats.

Someone suggested to me trying a USB wifi dongle for Chromebook. Do you have any experience with that option?

Unfortunately, I don't know if there are any compatible USB wifi adapters for Chromebooks.

I found a dongle that was purported to work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y2HKT75

On my Chromebook, this dongle did work, but it was way too slow.

So, I'm back to using the original card.

I appreciate the help in sorting this out.
