Hi,
I'm having what seems to be a common issue (based on all the forums about it) in that my Chromebook suddenly can't actually connect to any wifi networks. Over night, all of a sudden, it says it is connected, that the connection is strong, but "no internet".
Things I've tried:
-restarted the router, several times
-rebooted the Chromebook, also several times
-hit "forget network" and relogged in.
-tried to connect via phone hot spot, same issue
-tried it at another location with a different WiFi network, same issue.
The wifi works fine on my phone and my husband's computer so I'm sure the router isn't the issue. I have read tons of help sites and forums, and nothing has worked. Can't update the OS because I need a network connection for that.
Any ideas?? Again, it was over night, no damage to chromebook or router. Very weird. Already been a week and nothing has worked. Thank you for aaaany help!!

Hi @Parisa406 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps, so let's delve into some additional troubleshooting measures:
- Powerwash: This is essentially a factory reset for Chromebooks. It will erase all local data, so make sure to back up any important files. To perform a Powerwash, go to Settings > Advanced > Reset Settings> Powerwash.
- Check for System Updates: Although you mentioned you can't update the OS due to the lack of internet, sometimes Chromebooks can still check for updates without a connection. Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
- Check Proxy Settings: Sometimes, incorrect proxy settings can cause issues with internet connectivity. Go to Settings > Advanced > Open your network settings > Proxy > Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is enabled.
- DNS Settings: Try changing your DNS settings to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). To do this, go to Settings > Network > Network settings > Advanced > DNS > Custom nameservers.
- Check for VPN or Proxy Services: If you're using any VPN or proxy services, try disabling them to see if they are causing the issue.
- Check for Hardware Issues: Although less likely, there could be a hardware issue causing the problem.

Thank you so much for all the strategies! I went through the whole list and nothing was working for me until the power wash. I saved all my files and power washed the Chromebook and that did the trick!
Thanks again, and hope this info can help someone else with a similar issue.
Best,
Parisa
