You're very welcome.
The wlan card driver update is not on your notebook's support page.
The problem is that if you turned off the wireless security in your router, the wifi card would work just fine.
Naturally, you don't want to do that, and the driver I posted will allow the Atheros AR5007 wifi card to work with the modern WPA2-personal security setting.
Now, if you are having issues opening the file...Assuming you have it on your CQ60-215DX ...Install this free file utility.
The first file listed at the top of the page is for 32 bit. The second file is for 64 bit, so choose the file you need.
http://7-zip.org/download.html
After you install 7-zip, right click on the driver file you saved (sp54972).
Select 7-Zip from the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: And let it extract the file into its folder name (sp54972).
Then manually update the wifi driver as follows...
Go to the device manager. Click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category.
Click on the Atheros AR5007 wifi adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC, and you should now have both local network and internet access.
I wrote a short forum topic on this common issue several years ago. This was a common issue with that model wifi adapter.

Hi
Windows Vista and no updates? Please give the Operating system 32 or 64 bit.
Can/Do you connect with a cable? If so....
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=windows+vista
has 996 assorted updates.
##########################
Now to the WiFI, and I only have Windows 10 answers, but I know some go back to Windows 7, and should be valid for Windows Vista.
First some command line stuff to try...
Open a Command Prompt, CLI or DOS box please and type some/all of the following and screenshot or copy and paste the answers back into this thread please.
getmac ipconfig -all netsh wlan show interfaces netsh wlan show drivers netsh wlan show profiles
To connect to the internet you will need a working network adapter, Ethernet or Wireless.
A DHCP IP address, this is usually automatically assigned.
A subnet mask to match, usually 255.255.255.0
A Gateway IP address, normally on the label of the router (192.168.0.1)
DNS Server(s) to get to a site, these are usually automatically assigned, and look typically like this 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4, but are unique to your ISP.
If you compare a working device, like your mobile phone(s) and get their values, then see what anomalies your laptop has.
If in doubt please ask.

Hi, @Alyce2
You need to update the wifi driver to this version, and you should be able to regain internet access...
This package contains the drivers for the supported Atheros Wireless LAN Adapters in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your help. I'm on the desktop I have and the link you provided is not opening because of some kind of security message thing..? I don't know... I tried on my mobile devices and it just says it can't open. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... 😞 Also, I think I already did the 5 WLAN network driver updates when I looked up my laptop model and Windows operating system without success, so I don't know... Any suggestions? Thanks. I really want to figure this out.

Hi
Somewhat simultaneous, sorry I dont want to disrupt the thread.
The link Paul has provided is to an FTP server, which I can only access when I lower my firewall setting, so the fault problem is not you. Maybe if you lowered / dropped temporarily your firewall?
Now if you try this...
You can see it is a command prompt administrator level.
I type in getmac and it lists 3 things. Bluetooth Media disconnected, the other item media disconnected is my ethernet cable to my router, and the TCP/IP item is actually my WiFi. That shows / proves the things.
So if you can copy and paste or just type in those details, via a desktop or phone it would help.
Then type in ...
getmac netsh wlan show drivers
C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh wlan show drivers
Interface name: WiFi

AND give us the short version (rtl8723be and 2023.54.331.2017 oem0.inf) and we can move on from there.
I hope this is accurate
Networking Modem, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional WWAN
Which could mean your Compaq could be connected via Ethernet cable straight into your Router. Has it ever had the cable fitted and used?
Unplug the network cable from the desktop and plug it into the Laptop, and who knows.
