Hi there! Can someone let me know if the Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter is compatible with my laptop? I want to replace my WiFi current wifi card so that I’m able to connect to 5ghz WiFi in order to have higher internet speeds when I use this laptop in college for homework. Please let me know!

You should be able to upgrade to

 

  • Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac 2 × 2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 (MU-MIMO supported) part # 924813-855
  • Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac 1 × 1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported)  part # L17365-005

Are you sure that I’m able to upgrade to the Realtek RTL8822BE? Doesn’t it have two antennas, while my laptop can only support one? Also, does one card provide better speeds than the other, or are they the same?

If your notebook currently has the Realtek RTL8723DE wifi adapter, you can only upgrade to the RTL8821CE as the  Realtek RTL8822BE requires two antenna wires for the Bluetooth to work and your notebook would only have one if it has that model wifi card.

 

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.  I see an Intel card listed as the first one on the eBay listing, so don't buy that one.

On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001

 

The card will have the same 72 MBPS throughput as the original wifi card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band, it will have a max throughput of 433 MBPS when you have an AC router with an excellent wifi signal strength.
