Hi @LALOUDO,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble connecting your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer to your laptop. Since you mentioned that after running diagnostics, you see a message saying "Printer," it could be a connection or configuration issue. Here are some steps to try to resolve the problem:

1. Check Printer Connection

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that both the printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you are using Wi-Fi Direct, make sure your laptop is also connected to the printer’s direct network.
  • USB Connection: If using a USB cable, ensure it is securely connected to both the printer and your laptop.

2. Restart Devices

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart the Laptop: Restart your laptop to refresh the network settings.

3. Update Printer Drivers HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw Software and Driver

  • Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model (MFP M283fdw) to download and install the latest drivers for your operating system.

4. Check Printer Settings

  • Check Printer Status: Ensure the printer is ready and online. If it’s showing any errors (like "Offline"), resolve those first.
  • Enable Network Connection: Go to the printer’s control panel and ensure it is connected to your Wi-Fi network (navigate to Settings > Network > Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard).

5. HP Smart App  HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • Install HP Smart: If you haven’t already, download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP's website and try adding the printer through the app.
  • Run HP Smart Troubleshooting: Open HP Smart, select your printer, and run the built-in troubleshooting tools.

6. Manually Add Printer

  • Windows 10/11: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, click on Add a printer or scanner. Wait for the printer to appear and select it to add it manually.

7. Reset Network Settings on Printer

  • Factory Reset Printer Network Settings: If there are persistent issues with the network, reset the printer's network settings to default by navigating to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Network Settings.

8. Check Firewall/Security Software

  • Some firewalls or security software can block printer connections. Temporarily disable your firewall or security software and try connecting again. Remember to re-enable them after the test.

Well, let me explain. For whatever reason I had two printers installed. The first one that appears on the screen is precisely the one that presents the problem. This printer appears as offline. I moved to the 2nd printer and everything went well. The issue is how I make this first printer that is causing the problem disappear.

Hi @LALOUDO,

Thank you for your reply!
To remove the first printer that appears offline, follow these steps on your Windows 11 laptop:

Step 1: Open Printer Settings

  1. Click the Start button (Windows icon) and select Settings (gear icon).
  2. Navigate to Bluetooth & devices in the left menu.
  3. Click Printers & scanners on the right.

Step 2: Remove the Offline Printer HP printer is offline or unavailable

  1. In the list of printers, locate the first printer that appears as offline.
  2. Click on the printer name.
  3. Select Remove device and confirm the action.

Step 3: Verify the Printer List

  1. Go back to Printers & scanners and ensure the offline printer no longer appears.
  2. If the printer reappears after a reboot or reconnects automatically, it could be due to:
    • A duplicate installation.
    • Network settings caching the printer.
    • A software driver issue.

Step 4: Clear Additional Entries (if needed)

If the printer keeps showing up after removal:

  1. Open the Control Panel (search for it in the Start menu).
  2. Navigate to Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click the offline printer and select Remove device.
  4. Restart your laptop.

Step 5: Ensure Correct Printer is Default

  1. Go back to Printers & scanners.
  2. Click on the working printer (the second one).
  3. Select Set as default to avoid confusion in the future.
