Connecting to 5Ghz network

My HP laptop supports only 2.4Ghz network.

Can I use  a 5Ghz wi-fi adapter to connect to 5g network even though my device only supports 2.4Ghz

Hi:

You have two options...

1. Use an external USB dual band wifi adapter.

2. Replace the Realtek 8723DE wifi card with the Realtek 8821CE dual band AC wifi card.

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported)  HP part # L17365-005.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.

The card has the same throughput as the 8723DE wifi card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

Yes, the wifi adapter you selected would work on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz wifi bands.

You determine what band the wifi card works on by the suffix of the model.

On a single band wireless N card, the suffix ends in b/g/n.

On a dual band wireless N card, the suffix ends in a//b/g/n or a/g/n.

Dual band AC cards don't normally have suffixes.

The supported radio types...n does not mean dual band.  'a' means dual band.
