Hi @AnniS41,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to connect your HP Smart Tank 581 All-in-One Printer to a new Wi-Fi network, you can follow these steps. The process involves using the HP Smart app, which simplifies the setup.

Using the HP Smart App (Recommended)

Download the HP Smart App:

  • Ensure you have the HP Smart app installed on your smartphone or computer. You can download it from the HP Smart website or from your device's app store.

Prepare the Printer:

  • Make sure the printer is powered on.
  • Ensure the printer is in a ready state.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer:

  • If the printer is already connected to another network, reset the network settings.
  • On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button for more than three seconds or until the wireless light blinks.

Connect the Printer to the New Wi-Fi Network:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  • Tap the "+" sign to add a new printer.
  • The app should automatically detect your printer. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • When prompted, select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Manual Method Using Printer Control Panel

If you prefer or need to connect manually without the HP Smart app, follow these steps:

Reset Network Settings:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button at the same time for three seconds.

Use the Printer Control Panel:

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button.
  • Use the control panel to select the Wi-Fi setup option.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If your router supports WPS, you can use this method:

Prepare the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Ensure it is in a ready state.

Activate WPS on the Router:

  • Press the WPS button on your router. This button is usually located on the back or side of the router.

Activate WPS on the Printer:

  • On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button for three seconds.
  • The wireless light will blink, indicating that the printer is searching for a WPS signal.
  • The connection process may take a few minutes. Once connected, the wireless light will stop blinking and remain solid.

Troubleshooting Tips

Ensure Printer and Router Compatibility:

  • Make sure your printer and router are compatible and operating within the same frequency band (2.4 GHz is common for printers).

Move Closer:

  • Place the printer closer to the router during the setup process to ensure a strong signal.

Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your printer and router to refresh network settings.
