Just performed an upgrade to Windows 10 after a hard drive crash. Somehow the wired ethernet adaptor does not show up. It is not even listed in the device manager. (all devices in the Device Manger show as installed and in working order) When I booted to a Linux DVD. I had full use of the wired ethernet so it does not seem to be a BIOS or hardware issue. The wireless adaptor is working. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi:
See if performing a hard reset of the notebook gets the wifi adapter to show up in W10.
Follow the guidance under the Reset a laptop with a removable battery

I did try that but no go. Also, it's the other way around. The Wi-Fi is working just fine. It's the wired adapter that is not working or even showing up in the Device Manager. Everything works when booted to a Linux disk.

The hard reset sometimes works for the Realtek ethernet adapters, or I would not have suggested it.
So, you have two other opportunities to see if you can get it to show up.
1. Install the latest W7 chipset driver from the link below, restart the PC, and see if that gets the adapter to show up.

Install the latest W10 ethernet driver directly from Realtek.
2. Download, unzip and run the setup application from the W10 driver ar the link below.

Thanks for the suggestions. At first I was blocked from installing the chipset drivers. I had to do it via command prompt with administer privileges. Unfortunately, that did not work to have the ethernet controller show up in the device manager. Just for grins, I went ahead and attempted to install the ethernet driver from the link shared. It said it could not find any hardware.
Checked it again with a Linux boot disk. It works just fine in Linux.
