HP Deskjet 990Cse
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I have a Deskjet 990Cse USB printer that works perfectly with my new Thinkpad laptop at home. I took it to work to use as a color printer for my office (I got a new wireless color HP for home), however, when I connected it to my work computer it will only print in black-and-white. I cannot find a download to correct this issue. It is a perfectly good printer and it prints perfectly in color from my other computer. I tried getting an update for the driver, but one does not seem to be available for this USB printer to work with a Mac Big Sur. How can I fix this? It seems unreasonable to toss a perfectly good printer just because a driver won't be updated.

Hi @PhDNurse,

I'd like to help!

HP Deskjet 990cse Printer driver for macOS 11 is not available from the HP website or Apple Software Update. However, Gutenprint (formerly called Gimp-Print) provides open-source basic print drivers for many printers that would otherwise not be supported in Mac OS X. To see if your printer is supported, go to Gutenprint drivers for more information.

NOTE: Gutenprint drivers are not supported by HP or Apple.

You may also try the steps in the document - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
