HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 (771X4AV)

Hi there,

I bought a used G5 docking station (serial number 5CG101WVNC, new version 5TW10AAABB). My HP Spectre is constantly charging with the G5, even when the battery is at 100%, which is not very battery friendly. I can only interrupt the charging by switching off the docking station, but then the external monitors, LAN etc. are also disconnected. Is there a way to solve that problem?

Thanks a lot!

Ludsch

5TW10AAABB is not right, must be 5TW10AA#ABB (or 5TW10AA), #ABB is for country/region code. Sounds like your Spectre is not compatible with HP USB-C G5 (5TW10AA) dock.

The G5 docking station definitely is compatible with my Spectre. Six days ago on the product site for the G5 docking station (number 5TW10AA#ABB) user "Clara204" explicitly asked if this docking station is compatible with my HP Spectre (87C50EA#ABD): https://www.hp.com/de-de/shop/product.aspx?id=5TW10AA&opt=ABB&sel=ACC The official answer by HP was yes. Furthermore everything works fine between my notebook and that docking station except for the problem I had described. Is there anyone who has experience with the G5 docking station and can say something more about the possibility to stop the charging without disconnecting the rest?

Thanx a lot!

I mysel,f am using 5TW10AA dock on my HP 840 G5 machine now. I also tested my dock on my other HP machines (HP zBook, HP Envy 15-eexxxx  and also Dell, Lenovo machines) and they all worked. The only thing I could not test: HP Spectre, I know for many years people couldn't get FULLY compatible between HP Spectre and HP USB-C G5 dock.

Hope some good news from someone.

Regards.

It is good news that this docking station works on several tested notebooks but the question is still what is meant by "being compatible fully". As I said I tested the G5 dock on my Spectre and everything worked fine apart from the problem I described. When you are using this dock on several machines: Is this dock charging constantly when in use even though the notebook's battery is full already? Are you able to interrupt/stop the charging without switching it off completely (so that only the charging of the notebook is stopped but not the connection to usb slots, monitors and lan-wire)?

The charging process stopped when 100% on my tests.

Thank you Banhien, that's what I thought, what I experienced and  what I wanted to be confirmed. It's is obviously part of the design of these docks that they keep the notebook battery at 100% all the time what will ruin the battery. I will have to look for an alternative battery friendly docking station.
