I have a G5 dockingstation on my desk and on the run. Drivers and firmware is the newest installed. Network adapter is Realtek USB GbE Family Controller. This connection only brings 100 Mbit's but network connection shows 1000 Mbit's. Cables are Cat. 8 and all software and drivers updated.  Anybody with the same challenge?

Hi @Resi229,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've done a lot of troubleshooting already! Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the issue with the network speed on your HP USB-C G5 Docking Station.

  • Check the Port Speed Settings: In the Device Manager, navigate to the network adapter (Realtek USB GbE Family Controller) and check the properties. Under the "Advanced" tab, ensure that the speed is set to "Auto Negotiation" or manually set it to 1 Gbps if needed.
  • Recheck the Cable Quality: While you're using Cat 8 cables, it's worth confirming that the cables are working as expected. Test them with another device directly to ensure they can reliably support gigabit speeds.
  • Verify USB Port Specifications: Ensure that your laptop’s USB-C port is indeed capable of supporting 1 Gbps. Some older or lower-spec USB-C ports may not handle gigabit speeds. Check your laptop's specifications to confirm whether the port supports USB 3.0 or higher.
  • Test Docking Station on Another PC: If possible, try connecting the docking station to another PC. This will help determine whether the issue lies with the docking station or the specific laptop.
  • Check for USB Power Settings: Power-saving features could throttle the performance of your docking station. Disable any power-saving settings on your laptop for USB devices. This can be done in the Device Manager under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" > "USB Root Hub" properties.
  • Test Network Adapter Directly: Connect the Ethernet cable directly to the laptop without the docking station to ensure the network speed is indeed 1 Gbps and the issue lies with the docking station itself.
  • Update the Realtek Driver: Even though you've updated the drivers, sometimes downloading the latest Realtek driver directly from their website (rather than relying on Windows Update) may solve the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
