Helping a friend with her HP 15-g013cl and was surprised to discover no internal bluetooth adapter. Is one available to install inside the laptop or is a dongle the easiest and cheapest way to go?

Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs page for that model notebook.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04323169
It does not come with built in bluetooth networking, or that feature would have been listed along with the 1x1 802.11b/g/n WLAN wireless connectivity specification.
You have two options...
1. Upgrade the internal wifi adapter to one that is both a combination wifi/bluetooth adapter.
2. Install a USB bluetooth adapter.
The parts list for the model indicates that it comes with an Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi adapter.

There is probably only one antenna cable installed and connected to the wifi adapter in there now, which limits your choice of wifi card upgrades to this one only:
Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11bgn 1×1 + BT 4 LE Combo Adapter HP part # 753077-001.
You can find this model on eBay in used but tested and working condition.
Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi adapter.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the wifi adapter removal and replacement procedure.

Before installing the replacement card, go to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, right click on the Atheros wifi adapter listed there.
Select Uninstall and check the uninstall driver box.
Shut down, unplug the PC, remove the battery and install the replacement wifi adapter.
Here are the links to the wifi and bluetooth drivers for the RTL8723BE wifi adapter...
