HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So just to clarify what I have read here regarding my HP having cellular connectivity, they shipped out G7 notebooks with a sim card slot and holder but without a cellular card? Mine has the slot but when I check device manager there is no cellular device listed under "Networking". I already added another unlimited line to my T-mobile account and was excited to be able to use cellular but there is no device listed and nothing in windows that would allow me to setup cellular. Is there any way the device is not turned on or something I am missing because I believe I purchased it with cellular capability. Thanks!

Hi:

All 840 G7's have SIM card slots.

What 90% of them don't have is the required WWAN card needed to connect to the cellular network.

HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook PC, Worlwide, QuickSpec

See the asterisk next to the WWAN specs on page 9.

* WWAN is an optional feature, requires factory configuration

Enter the product number of your PC in the box at the link below, and it should tell you if a WWAN card was supposed to be included with your specific model notebook.

HP PartSurfer

You can go into the BIOS and see if for some reason, the WWAN adapter is disabled.

If it is, enable it.

If it is not present, then you will first have to check to see if HP included the WWAN antenna wires in your notebook, and if so, you can buy the supported WWAN card and install it.

See the service manual at the link below...chapter 3 has the list of supported WWAN cards with their HP part numbers, and chapter 5 has the WWAN card removal and replacement procedures.

You are amazingly awesome and thank you. Technology seems a little less irritating with you here. The only thing better than your answer is if you drove here and installed the necessary components free of charge but I'll settle for the answer.
