I don't use the ethernet port but the orange and white lights on my laptop's ethernet port are permanetly on. This is causing high cpu usage and my laptop is freezing frequently. I've tried going to network connections to disable the ethernet but nothing is listed relating to it.
How can I disable the port so my laptop doesn't freeze all the time?

Hi emilybabcock ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Stream HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p287 and you want to disable Ethernet port in this notebook.Need not worry, I am happy to help you with this issue!
To provide the solution I need to understand this issue better.
- Please let me from when you are facing this issue.
- Did you do any software or hardware changes in this notebook?
You can disable the Ethernet port by uninstalling Ethernet driver.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- In the Uninstall or change a program window, select the program you want to remove from the list and click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change at the top of the program list.
Click here for the document and follow the first step in this document.
To uninstall from the device manager.
- Right-click the Start button at the bottom-left corner of your screen or press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager to launch the Device Manager.
- Locate the device whose driver you want to uninstall, right-click it, and select Uninstall.
- Check the “Delete the driver software for this device” option and click OK.
Let me know how it goes.

I started experiencing the problem over summer but when I moved and changed internet providers in order to connect to the internet I found a solution where I changed some numbers to 0 (I can't really remember what I did) and after that it was fine. But recently we changed internet providers and the problem has returned.
Also there are no ethernet drivers installed.

Thanks for the super quick reply.First off all,
it is a genuine pleasure to work with you.
I truly hope the computer issues get resolved quickly without hassles.
- The alternate way to disable to the driver is to right click on Ethernet driver in device manager and disable it.
- It’s safer to disable it from device manager than disabling from registries.

Hi@emilybabcock,
Thanks for responding.
I request you to try a hard reset on the PC.
The lights sometimes do this behavior because of static charge as well.
Try the steps from the link below and check if that helps.
Hope the information shared will help you. Please share for more.
