I can't get any ethernet, even though my laptop has the ethernet port. Nothing happens when I plug the cable in. The adapter for ethernet doesn't show up in device manager (only bluetooth and wifi show up). Please help.

@nam_3, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC has a physical Ethernet port but it’s not working or showing up in Device Manager, here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot:
Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s1000 does have an Ethernet port (RJ-45) that allows you to connect an Ethernet cable for wired internet access.
✅Check Device Manager for Hidden Devices
If you’re sure the port is there:
- Press Win + X > Device Manager
- Click View > Show hidden devices
- Expand Network adapters
- See if there's any Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller or similar that’s grayed out, hidden, or has a yellow triangle.
✅Try Scanning for Hardware Changes
- In Device Manager, right-click Network adapters > Scan for hardware changes.
- See if a new Ethernet adapter shows up.
✅Check BIOS Settings
Sometimes the onboard LAN can be disabled in BIOS/UEFI.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then choose F10 for BIOS Setup.
- Look under Advanced or Device Configuration.
- Make sure LAN Controller / Ethernet / Realtek LAN is enabled.
- Save and exit.
✅Install or Update Ethernet Driver
If still missing:
- Go to the HP Support Page for your model
- Search for your Victus 16-s1000 and select Windows 11 or 10
- Download and install the Realtek LAN Driver (or similar under Network)
You can also try using the HP Support Assistant to detect and install missing drivers.
✅Use Hardware Diagnostic Tool
Run the HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics:
- Shut down the laptop
- Press Esc on startup > then press F2 for diagnostics
- Go to Component Tests > Network > Ethernet
- See if the hardware is detected or fails the test.
✅Try with a Live Linux USB (Optional Advanced Step)
- Boot from a Live Linux distro (like Ubuntu) via USB and check if Ethernet works. If it still doesn’t detect the port, it might be a hardware fault.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
