Seit heute Morgen kann mein Laptop mit der SN [edited] keine Verbindung für ein WLAN aufbauen. Ein Neustart hat auch nicht geholfen das Problem zu lösen. Woran kann es liegen? Viele Grüße Michael Schmidt

Since two day my Notebook HP ENVY 17 is not able to activate the WLAN modus. Restart of the systems did not solve the problem. What could be the reason. When I checked the system the WLAN button is in grey and not possible to activate this button. The failure occurred immediately. In the morning everything was fine and after changing the office a connection was not possible. Best wishes, Michael

Hi @Michael_Schmidt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 17 can’t connect to Wi-Fi, and the WLAN option is greyed out, making it impossible to turn on. Let’s go through a few steps to find what’s causing this and fix it.

1. Check Airplane Mode & Function Keys

Press Fn + F12 (or the key with a wireless or airplane icon) to toggle Airplane Mode.

If your laptop has a wireless light indicator, make sure it’s white or blue (not orange).

You can also open Settings → Network & Internet → Airplane Mode and make sure it’s off.

2. Verify the Wireless Adapter in Device Manager

Press Windows + X → choose Device Manager.

Expand Network adapters and check if a wireless adapter (for example, Intel Wi-Fi or Realtek Wireless) is listed.

If you see a down arrow, right-click → Enable device.

If it’s missing entirely or has a yellow warning icon, continue below.

3. Run Windows Network Troubleshooter

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.

Under Network Adapter, click Run and follow the prompts.

Choose Wi-Fi when asked which adapter to troubleshoot.

4. Update or Reinstall the Wireless Driver

In Device Manager, right-click the Wi-Fi adapter → Uninstall device.

Restart your laptop — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

If it doesn’t, connect using Ethernet or mobile hotspot → visit HP Support AssistantUpdates tab → install available network driver updates.

5. Check BIOS Wireless Setting

Restart your laptop and tap F10 repeatedly to open BIOS Setup.

Navigate to Advanced → Built-in Device Options (or similar).

Make sure Internal WLAN is set to Enabled.

Press F10 to save and exit.

6. Reset Network Settings

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings → Network reset.

Click Reset now and restart your PC.

This reinstalls all network adapters and resets configurations.

I hope this helps.
