HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j009wm
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

First of all I am sorry if I am duplicating a post addressing the same issue however I have tried searching the forum and could not find anything related to my laptop model.

Ok so I have a fairly old HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j009wm laptop and I am experiencing network issues. The internet connectivity drops frequently and says the network is limited while every other device works as expected. Disabling and enabling the network adapter or reboot is required in order to  fix the problem (Temporarily of course).

I want to upgrade the wifi card however I am not sure what wifi cards are supported by my laptop model. I have heard there are some models with bios whitelist however I am not sure how to find out that.

Could you guys please enlight me in how I can find an appropriate and supported wifi card which will work fine with my laptop?

My laptop info is as follows:

Laptop name and model: HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j009wm

Product number: E0M27UA#ABA

Wifi Card: Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Hello @kostadinovstoil,

Thank you for your reply !!!

Well, The above mentioned are the list of cards, which are tested and certified by HP and found it working fine.

Also its really hard to tell you which is better than the other. Use any except RALINK.  Try with Mediatek

And unfortunately you cant use INTEL cards on your PC , Chipset will not support.

Hi GBL84,

Thank you for your help.

So if I am understanding correctly this is the list of the supported cards.

Does that mean no other cards will work with this model? Is this the BIOS whitelist or just recommendations?

Also of that list which one will be better than my current one? I know nothing about Wifi modules etc.

I have seen in some posts people pointing that this wifi card works with HP Envy 15 TS models however I am not certain since it says it works only with intel CPU's and mine is AMD 🙂

Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much. I will try to find some more info about the performance of the above mentioned wifi cards, especially for the Mediatek. Hopefully one of them is a better choice than my current Ralink RT 3290.

Hi, @kostadinovstoil :

True that you can't install any Intel cards in your notebook because it has an AMD processor, but because it does not have a BIOS whitelist, you can install either of these two Broadcom dual band wireless cards with bluetooth...

If you have, or plan to get an AC router, you can get this card...

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo

HP Part # 724935-001

If you want a dual band wireless N card...

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2×2 Wi-Fi Adapter, Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter    HP Part #730668-001

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the card.

You should be able to get either of these cards on eBay or Amazon.

That is very helpfull.

Thank you very much!

I will definitely consider these cards.

You're very welcome.

Those would be your only choices for dual band capability and bluetooth.

Any of the other non-Intel cards listed in the service manual are single band cards, and basically you would be trading even, and the Atheros and Realtek 8188 cards do not have bluetooth if that matters to you.
