HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I visited my 74-year-old mom during Thanksgiving and helped her set up her new HP Laptop 15-dy5073dx. After installing Windows 11 updates, the wireless connection suddenly stopped working. Drivers didn’t help. As a last resort, I reinstalled the factory image from another laptop using the HP cloud utility. Now, I’m stuck at the screen for choosing a wireless network, but it doesn’t detect any or work with my iPhone hotspot and its Windows 11s so I cannot bypass the set up using the OOBE\BYPASSNRO command.

It seems like the Wi-Fi adapter may have a major issue if the recovery image didn't show the Wi-Fi adapter during the initial setup.

W11 should have automatically installed the driver for the model Wi-Fi adapter the notebook comes with.

Does your mother have an option to return the notebook?

It is factory reset, and you can go with her if necessary to show that you can't connect to the internet right out of the box.

Because the only other thing you could try would be to clean install W11 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool and install the 'regular' version of W11 Home where you would be able to use the OOBE\BYPASSNRO command and set up a local account.

Clean installing W11 has its own set of challenges as you need to manually install the Intel storage controller drivers because W11 doesn't have them included in the installation media.

If the store won't take the notebook back, here are the instructions to install the storage drivers when you get to the screen where Windows can't find any drives to install on:

I zipped up and attached those storage controller files below.

The attached file is good for both W10 & W11.

Copy all of the files in both folders in the attached file to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the W11 installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Click Next, and W11 should install.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from the notebook's support page:

The parts list for the notebook indicates that it comes with a Realtek RTL8821CE Wi-Fi adapter.

I've posted the link to the latest Realtek Wi-Fi driver, which is a little bit newer than the one on the notebook's support page.
