HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fc0000 (733M2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Ever since I've gotten this laptop, most of it has worked really well. All except the Wifi. It's able to connect, but it REFUSES to stay connected. Simply turning the Wifi on the laptop off and on again fixes it but it's so tedious to have to do that every minute or so.
I've tried restarting the router, flushing dns, reseting network connections, factory resetting the computer, disabling Power management from turning things off, changed battery settings to never turn anything off, I've went into Device Manager, Control Panel, battery saver, cmd, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, getting a Wifi-extender, installing recommended software from the official site but NOTHING works. The closest I've gotten it is where it stays connected so long as it's charging but it no longer does that either.

Any ideas on what could be wrong with this laptop? Any and all suggestions I've seen so far and tried didn't work. And It's not that old, maybe a year or two? No damage or anything, it's been in a cabinet most of the time since it's so tedious to use. I'd rather not have to take it into a shop to get it fixed since it's basically fresh out of the box. Any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated!

Do you know which wifi adapter it has ?

  • Realtek Wi-Fi 6 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5.3 compatible combo (supporting Gigabit data rate)             OR

  • Realtek Wi-Fi 6 (1x1) and Bluetooth® 5.3 compatible combo

Please try :  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp148001-148500/sp148266.exe

Hope this helps.

If the recommended driver update did not help you might consider a different approach. I had a similar experience with a new laptop running windows 11 in Feb 2024 that has the same Realtek adapter. If I read your post correctly, you have had two issues:

1) The original issue was random wifi drops when running on battery; but no drops when running on the power adapter.

2) Now, random wifi drops when running on either battery alone or the power adapter.

I had both.  I fixed issue #1 by replacing my older wifi 4 router. Why? This is conjecture on my part but wifi 6 introduced a feature called Target Wake Time (TWT) that is suppose to extend battery life by controlling the sleep/wake time of the adapter by reducing the amount of time it scans for the wifi radio signal and thereby saving energy. This "service time" is negotiated  between the adapter and the AP (your wifi router). And, my guess is that it is turned off when running on the power adapter.

The system ran fine for a year and then random wifi drops started (after two Realtek driver updates 6001.15.154.0 and 6001.15.155.1 in Mar.2025) when running on both battery or power adapter. Like you I tried every recommended fix, but no help. I finally fixed issue #2 by re-installing an older driver from 6/15/2024 that was still on the HP software support website (6001.15.152.0). I would pursue issue #2 first to see if you can get stable wifi when running on the power adapter. Then if issue # 1 is still a problem you can investigate the router.
