Omen 15 dc003nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 2018 HP Omen dc003nr downloaded the Windows 10 May 2019 update, performed checks and installed via Windows Update. After update, I lost wifi functionality.

Adpater name: Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac PCIe Adpater

Driver version 2024.0.8.103

Driver Date: March 27, 2019

It can find wifi for a few seconds, connect, and drops the connection and refuses to find or connect to any wifi (hidden or shown).

The adpater is DEFINITELY not broken. I rolled back to previous build of Windows 10 (because losing wifi is loss of productivity for me) THREE times, and wifi adpater works PERFECTLY on Windows 1809. Device manager does show that Windows is having issues with the installed driver (on May 2019 update).

Looking for latest available driver (by plugging laptop via network cable) only shows "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed." WOW, the best driver on Windows 1903 does NOT work.

Windows Update does not provide any new driver. HP Support does NOT provide any new driver.

Did anyone over at HP forgot about their 2018 laptops already? Like they knew May 2019 Windows 10 upadte was coming on May, maybe someone should have checked if their machines will still be functional after the update.

And Windows Update did not do a great job checking if the machine was ready before downloading and applying the update.

Please, anyone at HP, give us an update for this adapter that can work on Windows 1903.

I am currently using a wifi dongle just to have wifi access. Yes, my 2017 wifi dongle has better compatibility.

Solution that worked: Update HP Connection Optimizer

Before reaching out to community, BIOS is already up to date, TCP settings already reset, Adapter driver and device disabled, updated, re-enabled, uninstalled, reinstalled. None of those worked before reaching out to community. Only HP Connection Optimizer solved it. Big thanks to the provider of the solution.

Yep. I'm writing back because I have a concern.

Wifi is broken again after HP installed " Hp Inc. SoftwareComponent 1.13.1213.0"  driver via Windows update.

I'm back to using Wifi Dongle.

Why is it that a new 2018 HP Omen laptop has more trouble connecting to the internet than my old USB Wifi dongle? And I'm sure the adapter is not broken. I can always revert back to an older image and get it working again. But that is just tiring. Can HP just give us a working  wifi adapter driver? And not issue updates that break things?

Wifi is basic laptop functionality. And for a laptop this expensive, it shouldn't be a recurrent issue.

Hi! @ChrisBee,

Thanks for writing back to us. As per the update Version: 2024.0.8.103 should solve all the wireless disconnect issues.

However, as the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try performing a system reset on the PC and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about performing a system reset. Click Here

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Nope. Version 2024.0.8.103 driver for my wireless adapter is the version I had since Windows v1809.

After installing Windows May 2019 update v1903, wifi lost functionality (that's the reason I wrote this original thread). After your fix, it worked. Now, new drivers from HP installed and wifi is lost again. My system already had a clean install for Windows 1903. Machine is working perfectly until HP drivers updated. I now plug a USB wifi device to use the internet. If I unplug it, the on board wifi adapter just won't work.

And oh, that 2024.0.8.103 driver is dated March 27, 2019, well before Windows May 2019 update, well before any of your new HP software driver updates. An old driver cannot be the fix for problems I encounter just now (with your new HP drivers that install via Windows update).

Hi! @ChrisBee,

Thanks for the update again.

Try running a network test from HP support assistant and check the wireless card is functioning correctly.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Run the HP Network  Check Troubleshooting with Normal Connection result for my USB Wifi Dongle, and report of No preferred wifi network if no USB wifi dongle is attached.

But anyway, problem is resolved by running through all your previous tips. This one worked (for now): Disabling network power saving by unchecking box in adapter settings that allow computer to turn off the device to save power.

This is weird. Under Power settings, the wireless adapter power policy is maximum performance when plugged in, medium savings when running on battery. Why is Windows 10 turning this adapter off? Even when plugged in, it probably turns off the adapter, hence I loss wifi. I'm reporting this to Microsoft. Thanks again.
