HP Pavilion 11-h013dx x2 PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The Bluetooth functionality on my HP Pavilion x2 PC (detachable notebook) model 11-h013dx x2 is not working.  I have upgraded to Windows 10.  When I try to scan for BT devices I get a message that says "Couldn't connect" and to try to turn on Bluetooth.  I have performed the following:

-  Reset and reinstalled Windows numerous times inlcuding wiping the drive clean.

- Installed Windows using the "clean install" method using a USB flash drive.

- Restarted the Bluetooth Support Services using from the Windows Services app (and "services.msc" from the Windows+R command).

- Updated the Bios to the latest version F.27.

- Ran the system tests by pressing F2 when booting up.  All tests passed.

- Ran the HP Support Assistant.  It states that all the drivers are up to date.

- Tried the WIndows Troubleshooter tool to no avail.

- Attempted to find and download the drivers for the Bluetooth radio from the HP support web site for this machine, but did not locate any.

- There is no Bluetooth listed in the Device Manager screen.  However there is a "Bluetooth Controller" under "Other Devices".  When double clickking that, it states that the drivers for this device are not installed.  I used the WIndows automatically search for drivers featute to try to find the drivers for the Bluetooth radio but Windows did not find any.

- I cannot determine what the Bluetooth radio device is in this machine (manufacturer/make/model?   Does anyone know?

I am at a loss.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you have an older card

690020-005
Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination WLAN adapter

I found a driver dated 2015  11.0.761.0 Rev.A

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71572.exe

Possibly @Paul_Tikkanen knows where a newer one is but you might consider upgrading to a better WiFi card.  I think the 1x1 means there is only one antenna in your laptop.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.  I actually found the service manual for the HP Pavilion x2 and it does mention 2 WLAN modules - one being the Ralink RT3290LE.  So I downloaded the .exe file and ran it.  Did not work unfortunately.  The strange part is that after I ran the exe, I looked at Device Manager.  The "Bluetooth Controller" listed under "Other Devices" disappared.  So I performed another clean install because....

I suspected that driver was for WIn7.  So I searched and found this web page https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=RT3290LE

It appears to list drivers for the 3290 for WIN 10 as cabinet files.  Knowing the x2 has a Pentium processor, I downloaded a cabinet for x86 computers (not AMD).  I was able to extract the files from the cabinet, and I ran Device Manager again and tried to update the driver for that Bluetooth Controller.  However WIndows did not find a driver amongst the 9 files listed in the extracted folders.  So I am stumped again.  Any thoughts?  Very much appreciated.

In this case the x86 means a 32 bit system and you have a 64bit processor .  AMD64 means 64 bit software.

That MS catalog has no drivers newer than 2015.

This is what Paul had to say about that Ralink

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Can-a-Pavillion-17-be-upgraded-...

I really think you need a better WiFi card. Your laptop has one antenna, the 2.4ghz one which is longer than the 5ghz antenna.

There is a discussion of HP Laptops that have White-listed WiFi cards in the bios

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Bios-whitelist-for-wifi-card/td-p/782...

Your laptop was released near the end of 2013 according to google search.

Paul recommended the Broadcom and that was accepted as a solution and it worked

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Replace-and-Upgrade-WLAN-card-on-HP-P...

the above post shows 2 antenas but the card is identified as Ralink 3290 which makes it a 2x2 card whici is suspicious.

alternately you can get a USB2 adapter for WiFi but that look klunky and take up a USB port

Thanks Beemer.  I understand all.  I will need to decide if I want to spend the time and $ on an old device like this. Very disapointing that Windows 10 drivers were never provided.  Makes me think twice about Ralink.

I very much appreciate your answering my inquiry.
