Hello HP Community,

I have a HP Pavilion X360 and my issue is that it disconnects from Wi-Fi when I plug in my charger in the office. However, when I am working from home, I DO NOT experience the issue and my laptop functions well even with the charger plugged.

I have tried using a different charger from a different office in the building, but still experiencing the same problem.

Is the issue related to the laptop, the office Wi-Fi or office building power, since this puzzles me. How do I resolve?

Hi @MKM12,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing your HP Pavilion X360 disconnecting from Wi-Fi when plugged in at your office but not at home can be due to several factors. Let's break down potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

Potential Causes

  1. Interference from Power Source: Electrical interference from the office power supply might be affecting your laptop's Wi-Fi connectivity.
  2. Wi-Fi Settings: Differences in Wi-Fi configurations between your office and home networks.
  3. Power Settings: The laptop's power management settings could be causing the Wi-Fi adapter to behave differently when plugged in.
  4. Charger Issues: Though you've tried a different charger, there might still be an issue specific to the electrical setup at your office.
  5. Driver or Hardware Issues: Problems with the Wi-Fi adapter driver or the adapter itself.

Troubleshooting Steps

Check Power Management Settings:

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Change Advanced Power Settings:

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select Change plan settings next to your current power plan.
  • Click on Change advanced power settings.
  • Under Wireless Adapter Settings, set both On battery and Plugged in to Maximum Performance.

Update Wi-Fi Adapter Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software or download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure your laptop is not placed near other electronic devices or power cables that might cause interference.
  • Consider moving to a different spot in the office to see if the issue persists.

Test with a Different Outlet:

  • Try plugging your charger into a different outlet in the office to see if the problem occurs there as well.

Office Wi-Fi Settings:

  • Verify if there are any specific settings or restrictions on the office Wi-Fi network that might affect connectivity when the laptop is charging.

Check for Electrical Issues:

  • Since this issue is specific to your office, there might be grounding or electrical problems causing interference. Consult with an electrician if necessary.

Additional Steps

  • Use an External Wi-Fi Adapter: As a temporary measure, you can use a USB Wi-Fi adapter to see if it mitigates the issue.
  • Check Event Viewer Logs: Look for any system logs related to network or power events at the time of disconnection.

I hope this helps.
