HP Spectre 15 4010nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hi there

I'd like to know if there is an option to upgrade WIFI card on my laptop. Currently it is stock Intel 6235 BGN adapter. Is it possible to install Intel Wireless 3160HMW 802.11ac ?

As I remember, there's some sort of "white list" of adapters that is compatible.... Will that one work? or should I look for other specific model?

P.S

Searched all over the internet, no info was found. Would be helpful if HP publish copatible HW for their products, so upgrades would be easier

@Tardis40,

I know all part numbers, that originally used in my laptop.

I'm currently looking for those, that are SUPPORTED as replacement/upgrade

The question is hether it is possible to upgrade wifi without making manual "adjustments" to BIOS  and deactivating compatibility check (which is not a desireable solution)

[UPDATE]

Installed INTEL 3260 AC card - seems to work fine (Cannot test AC actually, as there's no router available at home). At least - it works with N, BT is working too...

My conclusion - it IS POSSIBLE to upgrade, however wifi adapter should be for HP (adapters, pulled from Lenovo, Asus, etc won't work for sure)

Hi @WhySoSerious,

I hope you enjoy your visit to the HP Support Forums. I understand you have questions about WiFi card replacement . I will be glad to help you.

No, you can not change the WiFi network card on the notebook.

Hard drive, solid state drive,  Memory Modules are the only components that can be changed .

Please keep me informed of how things went.

If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you.

Ok, but how about part number "white list" of supported wifi models?

Hi @WhySoSerious,

You can go to HP Part Surfer.

Select your country on the right.

Enter the product number or serial number in the quick search box

It will then show all parts for your computer and have a box to click if part is available to order.
