HP Stream Laptop Model 11-ah111wm
Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

After not being able to do the latest update due to lack of storage this past September, my laptop refused to connect to the network acting as if there were no connections available when I knew that there was plenty available because I looked over at my friend’s laptop during lecture and all of our school’s WiFi options popped up when she clicked on the network icon. I know this is a regular HP problem when updates need to be done because it did it to her laptop before and my backup laptop as well. The only reason we could get past it is because that particular model still has an Ethernet port so it can still be connected to the internet and do the necessary updates when WiFi is not available and behold the WiFi returns when it’s all done. The problem is my HP Stream 11 does not have this accessory so in order for me to fix it on my own I have to have WiFi, which I am unable to access because I can’t update my laptop. I tried to factory reset the laptop and deleted a lot of files/apps and moved others to a local flash drive to free up space so that it could do the necessary updates, but none of it worked as I am still unable to access any WiFi connections. Could someone please help me? My back can’t take carrying around my backup laptop any longer due to its long and heavy size pulling my backpack down. I’m too short to have to carry all this weight. I have had this small HP Stream for only a year and a few months and have not been able to use it in my classes since the 1 year mark. Something’s gotta give...

@Tiff21 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are unable to connect the HP stream 11 laptops with Wifi.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Here's a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped others: Click here

I have a few steps to resolve the issue:

  • Since you've already reinstalled drivers, I would recommend using an Ethernet cable (Wired) and update your Wi-Fi drivers using this link

  • Update the bios by visiting this link or through a support assistant using an Ethernet cable.

  • Now try to connect to the internet wireless.

The best way to resolve the issue is by using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

None of those options worked for me. The notebook is in "S Mode". Could that be keeping me from being able to troubleshoot properly? Also, I refuse to buy recovery media unless it is going to be cheap. After all, this issue I have been experiencing for several months was never my fault. I think there should be some exception. Thank you.

@Tiff21

Thank you for posting back.

This sounds like hardware related issue with the HP Pen. Hence, I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/
