My wifi keeps disappearing. I will suddenly lose connection and then when I click the network symbol on the taskbar, which usually pulls up the wifi button addition to other buttons like bluetooth, there is no wifi button. I have to power off my computer to restore connection.
it appears to be similar to this problem (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/HP-Envy-x360-Wi-Fi-disappears/m-p/853...) though the solution didn't work for me (as the update selected was not compatible with my device)

Hi @Bodham ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity issues can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Restart Your Router:
- Power off your router and wait for about 10-15 seconds.
- Turn it back on and allow it to fully restart.
Update Wi-Fi Drivers:
- Ensure your Wi-Fi drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the HP support website, entering your laptop model, and downloading the latest drivers for your wireless network adapter.
Windows Update:
- Make sure your operating system is up to date by checking for Windows updates. Microsoft frequently releases updates that may include fixes for various issues.
Power Management Settings:
- Check the power management settings for your wireless adapter. Some power-saving features might be causing the adapter to turn off. To adjust these settings:
- Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
- Find your Wi-Fi adapter under "Network adapters."
- Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select "Properties."
- Go to the "Power Management" tab and uncheck the option that allows the computer to turn off the device to save power.
Reset TCP/IP:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and enter the following commands one by one:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Network Troubleshooter:
- Run the built-in Windows Network Troubleshooter. Right-click on the network icon in the taskbar and select "Troubleshoot problems."
BIOS Update:
- Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
Check for Interference:
- Other electronic devices or networks in your vicinity might be causing interference. Ensure your Wi-Fi router is placed away from such devices and try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router's settings.
Disable and Re-enable Wi-Fi:
- When you lose connection, try disabling and then re-enabling your Wi-Fi adapter. You can do this by right-clicking on the network icon in the taskbar and selecting "Open Network & Internet settings," then turning off the Wi-Fi toggle and turning it back on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
