HP 14-dq0000 Laptop PC series (173C3AV)

I bought my laptop about three months ago. It's working fine apart from sometimes randomly not connecting to the wifi when started. All other devices connect without problem. The router is in the same room as the laptop. I have used the trouble-shooter which suggests there's something wrong with the router, but that doesn't make sense as all other devices are connected. Restarting the laptop doesn't do anything. The only thing that helps is restarting the router. Please can someone help me with this?

@MrsV1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP 14-dq0000 Laptop PC randomly fails to connect to Wi-Fi, especially when other devices work fine. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this issue.

Update Wireless Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause intermittent connectivity issues.

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click your wireless adapter (e.g., Realtek or Intel) and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Alternatively, you can download the latest drivers from the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.

Run HP Network Check

HP provides a built-in tool to diagnose and fix network issues.

  • Open HP Support Assistant (or download it here).
  • Select your device > Go to Troubleshooting and Fixes > Click HP Network Check.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10/11)

Disable Power Saving for Wi-Fi Adapter

Sometimes Windows turns off the adapter to save power.

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Properties > Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Forget and Reconnect to Network

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
  • Select your network > Click Forget.
  • Reconnect and re-enter the password.

Check Fast Startup Settings

Fast Startup can sometimes interfere with network initialization.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup > Save changes > Restart your laptop.

If the issue persists even after these steps, it could be a compatibility issue with your router. You might try:

  • Changing the router's Wi-Fi channel or band (e.g., switch from 5GHz to 2.4GHz or vice versa).
  • Ensuring the router firmware is up to date.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
