How can one find out if it has WWAN installed ( necessary hw / sw for using the sim card )?

Plastic strip covers the slot and the strip cannot hold the sim card.

Hi, @Rolfemann

It is easy to figure out if the notebook came with the optional but required WWAN hardware installed.

Go to the device manager.

Click to expand the Network adapters device manager category.

If your notebook comes with the optional WWAN hardware, there will be one of these model WWAN adapters listed in the device manager along with the ethernet and Wi-Fi adapter:

Intel 5000 5G WWAN module

Intel XMM 7560 R+ long-term evolution (LTE)-Advanced Pro (Cat 16) WWAN module

The service manual indicates that some models come with the SIM card slot, and some do not.

See chapter 1, page 3.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

Chapter 5 has the WWAN card removal and replacement procedure.

If your notebook happens to have the SIM card slot, I recommend that you contact HP customer service to confirm that you can install a WWAN card, because some of these models can only have the WWAN option if it was configured at the factory.

I have read posts where folks have installed WWAN cards in their notebooks using the correct HP part numbers, etc., and they did not work.

They didn't even show up in the device manager.

Ok - thank you very much 🙂

There is something called Intel 5G solution 5000 #7. Maybe this is it - or maybe it's an e sim solution, and not the physical sim card in the sim card slot?

You're very welcome, Rolf.

Yes, the Intel 5G Solution 5000 is the WWAN card.

Is there any information in your notebook's user guides page for how to use the card?

Service manual or user guide?

I have no experience in that area, so I wouldn't be able to help you with setting up the WWAN to work.

Unless BeemerBiker knows how to set up a WWAN, you may want to start a new topic on the subject or contact HP customer service for further assistance.
