I have new HP 6000e printer.  I cannot print in color.  I have color cartridge, but it still prints in black and white.  No color option.

Hi @nberkeley

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to print in color

To assist  better-

1) Are you able to make color copies using the printer?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?

While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -

  • Make sure your device is on the same wireless network as your printer.
  • Open HP Smart, and then select your printer, if it is not already selected.
  • Under Tools, click Printer Reports.
  • Next to Print Quality Report, click Print.

Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

You may also refer to this document with steps to fix the " Print Quality Issues" issue applicable for your printer

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @nberkeley,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you have an HP Officejet 6000 printer and you're experiencing issues with color printing despite having a color cartridge installed, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take.

Check Color Settings:

  • Make sure that the document or image you are trying to print is set to print in color. In most applications, you can find this setting in the print dialog box under "Properties" or "Printer Preferences."

Printer Driver Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer driver settings are configured correctly. Open the printer properties on your computer, and check if the color settings are set to "Automatic" or "Color." This can usually be found in the printer properties or preferences menu.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page directly from the printer. Most HP printers have a built-in self-test or diagnostic page that you can print. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this. If the test page prints in color, it may indicate that the issue is with the computer or software settings.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your operating system.

Check Cartridge Levels:

  • Verify that the color cartridge has sufficient ink. Some printers may not print in color if the color cartridge is low or empty. Check the ink levels through the printer software or the control panel on the printer itself.

Clean Print Heads:

  • If the print heads are clogged, it can affect color printing. Many printers have a utility for cleaning print heads. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a print head cleaning.

Check for Grayscale Setting:

  • Some printers have a grayscale or black-and-white printing option in the settings. Make sure this option is not selected.

Default Settings:

  • Check if the printer is set to default to black and white for all print jobs. Adjust the default settings to allow for color printing.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Check the HP support website for firmware updates for your specific printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
